I am leading Ray Power Africa by trying to find solutions to these questions. The energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa needs to provide for 600 million people who still lack access to electricity; however, access can’t be the only parameter we look at because even more can’t count on reliable energy; the region also has the lowest per-capita energy consumption level. I believe that energy is a driver of change for the development, economic growth, and environmental improvement of the region.

Ray Power Africa is using off-grid solar home systems and water pumps to create distributed networks of electricity that can reduce the carbon footprint by using solar energy, boost economic growth by providing digital services through electricity and connectivity, and increase the energy capacity ensuring that digitalization and technological advancement can take place and cater to meet the needs of the rising billion.
